“My teammate’s life is in my hands”
His career
Born on 30 January 1988 in Saint-Etienne, near Lyon, Quentin Caleyron is a French racing cyclist and former bicycle motocross (BMX) specialist. He discovered BMX at age 9, and rose quickly through the ranks to become one of France’s top performers. In 2017, he pivoted to track cycling, and since 2021 has focused on tandem cycling.
Resilience
Although he sustained repeated injuries early in his BMX career, Quentin bounced back every time. He participated in 2 World Cup finals and was chosen to represent France at the 2012 Olympics, where he reached the BMX Race semi-finals.
In 2015, after 6 years at the Pôle France training centre in Aix-en-Provence, he joined the National Cycling Centre in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, near Paris. On 18 August of that year, he became a member of the SNCF Athletes programme and began working in the engineering design unit of France’s Railway Testing Agency (AEF) in Vitry-sur-Seine, near Paris.
Bone graft
In spring 2016, Quentin had a fall that required a bone graft and kept him out of the Rio Olympics. Unable to continue BMX competition, he pivoted to track cycling.
New challenges
After the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, Quentin took on a new challenge when he joined Paralympian Raphaël Beaugillet as pilot of their tandem team. For Quentin, working with Raphaël marked a new phase in his cycling career and the start of a powerful experience for him as both athlete and human being.
