Keolis selected to operate metro lines 16 and 17
It’s a first—the region’s first metro lines put out to bid. And the winner was announced on 30 May 2023, when Île-de-France Mobilités chose our Keolis subsidiary to operate future driverless metro lines 16 and 17 in the Paris region when they start up in October 2026.
A historic win for our subsidiary
The contract covers 7 years (with a 3-year renewal option). Under it, Keolis will also operate the Saint-Denis Pleyel station starting in June 2024. The largest Paris region station, this will eventually connect lines 14, 15, 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express. Marie-Ange Debon, Chairwoman and CEO of Keolis Group, said, “This iconic contract win is a milestone in our Paris region strategy and shows that our expertise in operating automated metros is both respected and appreciated.”
Paris region metro offers world-class transport
A pioneer and world leader in automated metros, Keolis has been operating driverless lines for 40 years, exporting expertise around the globe. And Keolis is now bringing that expertise to the Paris region, where passengers will benefit from its automated metro know-how. Aim? Make sure that lines 16 and 17 offer world-class performance and passenger experiences.
Managing the Saint-Denis Pleyel station from June 2024
The contract also includes management of the Saint-Denis Pleyel station starting in June 2024, ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. As the largest station in the Paris region, it will eventually connect lines 14, 15, 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express.
5,000 employees and 27 subsidiaries in the Paris region
Keolis’s 27 subsidiaries and 5,000 employees operate 400 bus lines and transport-on-demand services for passengers with limited mobility. They also run 5 Paris region rail networks that are currently up and running or in the pre-operation phase: T9, T11 Express, T12 Express, T13 Express and CDG Express.
As a partner of Île-de-France Mobilités, Keolis works closely with all stakeholders in the regional mobility ecosystem, harnessing its detailed understanding of Paris region residents’ mobility and lifestyle preferences as compiled by its Keoscopie market research unit.
