Keolis is deepening its investment in Australia to reinforce its position as a trusted partner of Australian authorities, delivering sustainable and innovative mobility solutions to serve the country’s travellers and states. On Monday, 7 July 2025, the company announced that it had signed an agreement with Downer to acquire its entire stake in the Keolis Downer joint venture.
This transaction is expected to be completed by year-end 2025, enabling Keolis to pursue its growth trajectory in a country where it been active in the bus, river shuttle, tram, driverless metro and rail sectors for 15 years.

With this investment, Keolis—already a majority shareholder of the joint venture—is now in a strong position to form a robust consortium to respond to the upcoming tender for Melbourne’s train operations.
Keolis is already widely recognized in Australia for its proven expertise in urban mobility, including as the operator of the G:link light rail system on the Gold Coast (Queensland) and Newcastle Light Rail north of Sydney. The company is also responsible for train maintenance in Adelaide, manages major bus networks in Perth (Western Australia), Adelaide (Southern Australia), Brisbane (Queensland), and Sydney, and operates the integrated public transport system in Newcastle (New South Wales).
