Freight trains between Strasbourg and Lauterbourg were successfully diverted during construction work. Franco-German cooperation avoided having an additional 16,000 trucks on the road, and proved how resilient rail freight transport is. In total, 11 companies—excluding the French and German infrastructure managers—worked closely together to carry off this complex, meticulously planned and technically coordinated operation, which:

  • Enabled 478 traffic diversions
  • Saved 100 tons of CO2
  • Avoided another 16,000 trucks on the road
