Railway Security—protecting people and property
Our Railway Security team works 24/7 on behalf of rail stakeholders, safeguarding passengers, property and employees on the French network, in stations, and aboard trains.
“Transport, intervene, protect”—that’s our purpose at Railway Security (Sûreté Ferroviaire, or SUGE). As a unit of SNCF, the parent company of SNCF Group, we keep people and property safe in the rail system.
Railway Security provides contract services that meet the needs of its customers and support government action.

Our mission
Railway Security officers are responsible for preventing and countering all malicious acts—property damage, assault, sexist language, harassment and more—in the rail system and the areas immediately around it. Every day, our 3,200 employees work to deliver safe, effective, worry-free transport for millions of passengers in the French rail network.

Our expertise
Railway Security combines the expertise of security professionals with knowledge of the rail system. This unique skillset has earned us the trust of infrastructure and platform managers as well as passenger and freight rail operators.

Our structure
To fulfil our mission, we rely on:
- a nationwide network of operations personnel, organized into 9 regional security divisions
- specialized teams that can support police, gendarmes and customs officers
- forces that can be deployed anywhere in France, including rapid-response and canine teams
- crisis management centres, including the French national rail security centre (Centre National de Sûreté Ferroviaire, or CNSF)
