The 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris in photos
Until 30th August, Paris-Montparnasse railway station is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Paris.
Witness to the German surrender
Did you know? Montparnasse railway station played its own role in the Liberation of Paris. Here, on 25th August 1944, General von Choltitz signed the orders for the surrender of German units in Paris and the surrounding region. At the end of the day, General de Gaulle visited the station to observe this act of capitulation.
Paris-Montparnasse is taking part in the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the landings, the Liberation and the Victory by hosting an exhibition, custom-made in partnership with the Museum of the Liberation of Paris, the Général Leclerc Museum and the Jean Moulin Museum, running until 30th August 2024, in commemoration of this key date in our collective history. See you around the waiting room in Hall 2 in Paris-Montparnasse.

“Railway Workers and the Resistance”
A second exhibition at Paris-Montparnasse station illustrates the actions of the railway workers faced with first war, and then occupation, under the dual guardianship of the occupier and the Vichy government prior to Liberation.
Enjoying greater freedom of movement than the rest of the population and privileged access to essential information, some of them joined the resistance – and in some cases paid with their lives. This exhibition pays tribute to their commitment.
