Viaur Viaduct declared a historical monument

In 2022, the iconic Viaur Viaduct marked its 120th anniversary in style when it was declared a historical monument. This engineering masterpiece is one of the top 3 steel structures built in the 19th century, alongside the Eiffel Tower and the Garabit Viaduct. It is now being considered for Unesco World Heritage status.

Bridging the Tarn and Aveyron regions

Designed by engineer Paul Bodin, the viaduct is 460 metres long and 116 metres tall. It is the only railway bridge of its kind in France. Depending on temperature and wind conditions, the viaduct’s central arch flexes freely when a train passes over it.
