Rail traffic
Rail accidents are rare but serious. People don’t always hear trains approaching, so it’s crucial to strictly follow all safety requirements.
Electrocution
The catenaries that power our trains carry 25,000 volts of alternating current or 1,500 volts of direct current. If you use bulky, conductive equipment near our tracks, you must be extremely vigilant.
Passenger traffic
If crowds of passengers get too close to your set, it’s all too easy for people to be jostled and even knocked over. The risk is even greater when a train pulls in: up to 1,000 people can pour out of a TGV in just a few minutes.
A prevention plan
At SNCF, safety is fundamental to our business—a challenge we face every day. Your shoot can disrupt the flow of people through a station, requiring extra care to keep everyone safe. During the scouting process, your production company must explain your expectations to the SNCF representative for the site, who is responsible for laying out all of the safety and operating restrictions. Once the two sides are in agreement, the safety requirements will be documented in a “prevention plan”.
