Body cameras
We’re trialling use of body cameras by sworn SNCF officers.
As authorized by Article 113 of France’s Mobility Act (Law No. 2019-1428) and its implementing decree, SNCF Voyageurs (9 rue Jean-Philippe Rameau 93633 la Plaine Saint Denis cedex, France) is trialling the use of body cameras by certain sworn officers who meet the description in Article L.2241-1 of the French Transport Code.
The legal basis for processing the data is the data controller’s legitimate interest in ensuring the safety of persons. The primary purposes of processing are to prevent incidents involving security officers, and in the event of an attack, to identify violations and gather evidence that can be used to prosecute perpetrators.
The cameras do not record continuously. Recording is not activated unless customers become verbally or physically aggressive, or officers believe themselves to be in danger, or the affected individual requests it.
Officers will give verbal notice to the affected individuals when recording begins. If an officer has reason to fear that the situation presents an immediate threat to the life or bodily integrity of any person, notice may be deferred until circumstances allow it.
SNCF Voyageurs will process audio-visual data (sound and images) recorded by the body cameras, as well as the connection data to images of their officers.
The audio-visual data will be retained for 30 days, starting from the date it is recorded. The image connection data will be deleted after 3 years. Access to the data is limited to authorized individuals at SNCF Voyageurs, its subcontractor SNCF, and its technical service providers.
All affected data subjects have the right, within the terms and limits of the law, to ask the data controller for access to their personal data, as well as the right to rectification and erasure and the right to issue directives on the handling of their personal data after their death.
