Trialling solutions for the innovative TELLi light train
For the TELLi project, we’re developing a rolling laboratory based on the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region’s X73524 trainset. SNCF is coordinating a consortium of GTS France, Texelis, CAF, Railenium, Faiveley, Alstom, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, Capgemini, Cerema, and Ektacom, and the project is funded by Ademe.
About the project
On these prototypes, various functionalities will be progressively developed and added from june 2024 to December 2026.
These new functions will read railway signalling, detect obstacles, monitor track and identify anomalies, test new options for the interior and more. This will require installing cameras, radar, lidar and other sensors inside the trainset and on its front and rear.
Scope
Where trials will be carried out
The trials will focus on the TER lines feeding into the Limoges railway hub in northern Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
How long trials will last
The trials will run from June 2024 through 31 December 2026, with GTS France carrying out the first one between March and June 2024.
Its purpose will be to test autonomous perception of the environment and of the train’s position, using sensors such as cameras, lidar, radar and satellite receivers built into the trainset. The data they collect will be used to develop and improve algorithms.
As part of its work on the TELLi project, GTS France may transmit anonymized images to other consortium members and to its subsidiaries outside France.
These images will be retained until the project ends on 31 December 2026 for use in improving the autonomous functions developed by the consortium.
Processing of data by GTS France, June 2024-January 2025
Data are collected from cameras installed at the front and rear of Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s trainset to carry out long- and short-range obstacle detection.
GTS France may collect the following personal data:
- Images of persons on platforms, at level crossings, on the side of roads running along the track, and along the track at SNCF sites. This concerns passengers, third parties along the track, and SNCF employees such as track maintenance workers and conductors
- Registration plates of vehicles along the track
None of the processing will allow biometric data to be extracted from the images involved.
GTS France, acting as the data controller, will process your personal data for purposes of:
- developing, training and checking the algorithms used for autonomous perception of the environment and positioning of the train;
- maintain the onboard image collection system while the train is running.
The legal basis for GTS France to carry out the processing described above is the legitimate interest to design reliable, effective algorithms that can provide the train with autonomous functions for serving small local lines.
SNCF will receive only anonymized data from GTS France, 2 to 3 times per year. At present the data is stored only for a possible future use that is still being determined.
Personal Data
Please be advised that your personal data (images) may be collected and processed by the consortium members at different stages of the project.
The data may be collected from the front and rear of the trainset, or from its interior for certain trials.
No biometric data will be processed during this trial.
Processing of personal data will be carried out under the responsibility of each consortium member charged with acquiring the data, based on the type of trial.
As the project coordinator, SNCF has appointed a data protection officer, reachable at dpo-sncf@sncf.fr.
The data will be anonymized and retained only so long as needed to create a database of images to train the algorithms developed under the project.
How to contact SNCF
