Committing full-time
SNCF Foundation gives employees the opportunity to do full-time stints lasting from 6 months to 2 years as volunteers for a non-profit partner organization. A closer look.
Committing full-time to a good cause
Since 2022, employees who wish to do so have been able take a 6-month to 2-year leave to work full-time with one of our partner non-profits.
This approach offers them more meaningful immersion in non-profit projects and fosters long-term commitment to public-interest causes.
A personal and professional adventure
Long term skill-sharing is a transformative experience—both personally and professionally. Employees who take part acquire new skills, discover different ways of working and add a new dimension to their careers.
For many, it is a source of motivation, pride, personal growth and professional development.

Here’s how it works
Throughout their pro bono assignment, employees apply their professional expertise, soft skills and most importantly, their desire to serve. Working for a non-profit lets them experience a new work environment and develop new skills. In return, the non-profit enlists highly qualified SNCF employees to execute their mission.
Each assignment takes place in a detailed framework with specific needs and objectives.
Who’s eligible
Provided their unit gives them the green light, employees of every profile and area of expertise are welcome. Top candidates will have already demonstrated their commitment to non-profit work by volunteering. Flexibility and motivation are also important factors.
The breakdown of participants is currently 40% late-career professionals, 40% making a career transition, and 20% requesting a transfer.
A typical assignment
While still employed by their current unit, pro bono employees put their professional skills to work on a project for a non-profit. Once the assignment is complete, they return to SNCF.
Throughout the communities it serves, SNCF Group Foundation offers employees a variety of opportunities to work on meaningful, impactful, real-world projects suited to an array of profiles, expertise and positions. For those who want to make a difference and feel appreciated, this is a work assignment like no other.
Who benefits from extended pro bono assignments?
- The partner non-profit receives skilled help to successfully execute its projects.
- The employee gets to experience a new work environment while developing new work and life skills by meeting colleagues in a different organization.
- SNCF Group fulfills its social mission and develops its employees’ skills.
