Our stakeholders
At SNCF, we’re working with our entire stakeholder community—starting with our employees—to fulfil our mission and serve the public good.
Our stakeholder community
- employees
- customers
- associations and non-profits
- employee organizations
- suppliers
- financial partners
- academics
- public officials
- civil society
We stay in touch with each group through surveys, panels, working groups, meetings, agreements and more.
Listening to our stakeholders
In September 2022 we surveyed stakeholders on SNCF’s strategic priorities, using an online questionnaire based on core CSR issues and standards—ISO 26000, the United Nations Global Compact, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Global Reporting Initiative. We also interviewed 8 SNCF executives as well as CSR representatives at Group companies and business units.
10,500 voices
In all, we heard from 9,000 SNCF employees and 1,500 outside sources. Their top 3 priorities were:
- upgrading infrastructure, in line with our ambitious commitment to grow rail’s share of transport
- expanding rail freight and offering bikes and other multimodal solutions instead of motorized options
- safety
Full results from this survey appear in the Non-Financial Performance Statement in our Management Report of 28 February 2024. View the Statement (starting on page 50).
Why it matters
Listening to our stakeholders lets us build a simple, cross-functional narrative and a shared language for meeting our CSR challenges consistently across all SNCF business units.
Our Stakeholder Committee¹
This multidisciplinary advisory committee is part of our parent company, SNCF SA, and the Chairman consults its members on strategic priorities. This offers an opportunity to open and enhance dialogue between the Group and our stakeholders.
The committee consists of:
- 1 member named by the Association of French Regions
- 1 member named by Ile-de-France Mobilités
- 1 member named jointly by the French Mayors Association and the Assembly of French Municipalities (AdCF)
- 2 members named by accredited environmental non-profits (France Nature Environnement and Climate Action Network)
- 2 representatives of transport users—the National Federation of Transport User Associations (FNAUT) and the French consumer group UFC–Que Choisir)
- 1 member named by the National Consultative Council for Persons with Disabilities (CNCPH)
An additional 8 qualified members are chosen by SNCF for their skills and experience in areas such as mobility, the ecological and inclusive transition, and regional development.
Teaming up through partnerships and sponsorships
We’ve forged long-standing partnerships around key CSR issues—sustainable mobility, climate and energy, the circular economy, mobility and social solidarity, gender equality and diversity, as well as regional action. Our aim in each case is to:
- develop and promote sustainable mobility in France and Europe
- develop and consolidate our own expertise and know-how
- expand our networks to increase the impact of our engagement
- ramp up our local presence and actions.
