On the move with Keolis in Denmark
We work with Danish transport authorities, offering an array of sustainable mobility solutions—electric and biodiesel buses, light rail and more.
Longstanding presence in Denmark
We’ve been in Denmark since 2007, playing a key role in decarbonized public transport and operating numerous networks in multiple towns and cities.
Light rail
In 2022 Keolis began operating and maintaining the new light rail network in the southern city of Odense, on behalf of Odense Letbane. The 15-year, €230 million contract was awarded to us in November 2018, and the line is expected to carry 10-11 million passengers annually.
Previously, we won the operations contract for Denmark’s top light rail network, serving the city of Aarhus and its suburbs.
Biofuel-powered buses
Since 2021, Keolis Danmark has operated and maintained a bus network in the North Jutland region, with most of its 77 vehicles powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). The €190 million contract was awarded by Nordjyllands Trafikselskab (NT), northern Denmark’s transport authority.
We’re also operating buses for the town of Hinnerup, 10 km north of Aarhus, under a contract running from 2013 to 2025. This network has a fleet of 14 biodiesel buses carrying 80 passengers each.
Electric buses
In 2020, Keolis won a 10-year contract worth over 100 million euros from Movia, the mobility authority for eastern Denmark. The contract covers the operation of 47 buses, 32 of them electric, serving the largest cities on the island of Seeland.
In 2022, Movia also renewed its contract with our subsidiary for a route in the Copenhagen area, including 17 new electric buses out of 28.
In the same year, Nordjyllands Trafikselskab (NT), the organizing authority for Northern Denmark, chose Keolis for a network of 31 electric buses in Aalborg, the country's 4th largest city. And in 2024, NT has also entrusted Keolis with the operation and maintenance of a line serving the two cities of Frederikshavn and Aalborg. 300,000 inhabitants will benefit from this transport service.
Strong presence in Northern Europe
In Denmark, Keolis employs 1,400 people and operates over 400 buses in more than eight cities, as well as two tramway networks.
In Northern Europe, our subsidiary is also present in Norway and Sweden, where it also operates electric and biofuel bus networks.
Starting in August 2024, Keolis will operate and maintain an urban and suburban bus network serving the Greater Stockholm area, under a contract worth over 600 million euros. A total of 476,000 inhabitants will benefit from this electric and biodiesel bus service.
