Keolis to recruit only women to drive trains on Pune line

PITCMRL consortium has awarded a 10-year contract to operate line 3 of the Pune metro to Keolis. The trains on this new line, located in southwest Mumbai, will be driven exclusively by women.

Making it easier for residents of the “Oxford of the East” to get around

Keolis is expanding its expertise in India. Our company, which specializes in shared mobility, has been selected by PITCMRL1, a consortium made up of Indian conglomerate Tata and German conglomerate Siemens, to operate the future Line 3 of the Pune Metro. Nicknamed the “Oxford of the East,” this city of 8 million inhabitants is located in the state of Maharashtra.

Currently under construction, the 23 km metro line will have 23 stations. It will be the city's third metro line and will significantly reduce travel time between the central business district of Shivajinagar and the IT hub of Hinjewadi, which employs more than 150,000 people.

The trains on line 3 will be driven exclusively by women. A total of about 100 female train pilots will be recruited and trained and will receive ongoing support to ensure their successful and lasting integration. Special attention will be paid to their safety and well-being during their journeys to and from work.

This initiative is part of a broader policy at Keolis, which has been committed to promote gender equality in the workplace for over ten years. In 2018, Keolis thus became the first public transport operator to be awarded the Gender Equality European & International Standard (GEEIS) certification.
