
Keolis is focusing on multimodal transport and services in Besançon
Grand Besançon Métropole has entrusted Keolis with the operation of the "Ginko" public transport network for a further seven years. Through this new contract, our teams aim to offer ever smoother, more environmentally-friendly mobility to the area's 200,000 inhabitants.
Multimodality and new services
Tramway, bus, transport for people with reduced mobility, transport on demand, long-term bike hire and self-service bike hire services and park-and-ride facilities, etc. Keolis will continue to operate all Grand Besançon Métropole public transport for the next seven years. The Organising Authority for Mobility has chosen to renew its confidence in our company to develop the "Ginko" network, which serves 68 municipalities and a catchment area of 200,000 inhabitants. Keolis also intends to improve the transport offer with 5 new trams acquired by the Organising Authority for Mobility and an expanded self-service and long-term bike hire offer. Target: 23.3 million passengers a year by 2031.

Innovating for sustainable, shared mobility
Grand Besançon Métropole and Keolis have confirmed their ambition to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 41% by 2031 on Ginko network activities. Thanks to ongoing investments, 100% of the bus fleet now runs on HVO biofuel or biogas. In addition, to simplify access to the network and improve the passenger experience, Keolis has already modernised ticketing and introduced Open Payment1 (January 2022), developed a “validometer” to combat fraud (May 2022) and a service to display real-time passenger crowding on buses/trams (January 2023).
This new contract marks an important step towards offering ever more innovative, sustainable mobility solutions tailored to individual needs.
