Seven more years managing Rennes’ STAR network

The new €1.3 billion contract covers all modes of transport serving 475,000 residents in the Rennes metropolitan area’s 43 municipalities—a network spanning 2,000 km of lines and 2,100 stops.

Setting a high bar

By 2032, the Rennes metropolitan area aims to deliver 130 million public transport journeys per year. Starting 1 January 2026, Keolis Rennes will take on that challenge under its renewed 7-year contract to operate the STAR network. The 130-million-trip target represents a 27% increase over the 102.8 million journeys recorded in 2024.

4 new bus rapid transit lines

To grow ridership across the Rennes area, Keolis will add 4 new bus rapid transit (BRT) lines—also known as trambus lines—by 2030. These additions will round out expanded offerings across the board: metro, bus, bike share, ride share and Handistar, the accessible service for people with reduced mobility.

Keolis Rennes now a mission-driven company

In 2024, Keolis’ Rennes subsidiary earned B Corp status, an international certification for companies that meet the highest environmental and social standards. Renamed Keolis Rennes Métropole, it has now chosen to become a mission-driven company under France’s Pacte law.

This new status reflects a commitment to the Group’s core values: sustainable mobility, stronger social ties and high-quality service.

Working for inclusive mobility

The contract will be managed by a local oversight body made up of representatives from Rennes Métropole, business and non-profit leaders, two STAR users, and two Keolis Rennes Métropole employees. They have pledged to increase transparency—listening and responding to residents’ needs. Keolis will also dedicate 40,000 hours a year to workforce integration, and people with disabilities will make up 6% of its staff.
