A modular, smart platform for small stations

Developed by SNCF Gares & Connexions, Mobil’Quai modernizes small stations and enhances local rail service with flexible, modular platforms that are quick to install. No major construction work is needed.

Promoting access to rail travel

This modular, smart platform developed by SNCF Gares & Connexions is a simple, temporary solution for extending a platform, raising it to improve accessibility, or creating a new stop from scratch. Mobil’Quai uses a modular metal structure assembled from standardized components and installed on lightweight screw-pile foundations. Its goal is simple: make rail travel more accessible in suburban and rural areas through stops that can be set up quickly and affordably, with minimal environmental impact. To test the system under real-world conditions, the team has identified initial pilot sites in France’s Grand Est region.

A platform… and customizable services

With built-in connectivity, Mobil’Quai delivers a suite of services under the “Quai as a Service” (QAAS) banner. These include passenger information, remote video monitoring, and AI-assisted support. Services are designed to adapt to different contexts, and include upgrading under-equipped stops, opening entirely new stations, and testing light rail systems. The entire structure is easy to disassemble and reuse.

5 use cases

Mobil’Quai is designed for a wide range of uses:

  • creation of new platforms, particularly for Metropolitan Regional Express Services (SERM)
  • extension or widening of existing platforms
  • platform elevation to improve accessibility
  • installation of temporary or experimental stops
  • deployment of QAAS services (connectivity, passenger information, assistance for passengers with reduced mobility)

Platforms recycled from rail sources

The platform’s surface is made from recycled plastics sourced from the rail industry, and include TGV bodywork. It’s an approach that supports the circular economy and reflects SNCF Gares & Connexions’ environmental commitments.

Funded by Ademe

Mobil’Quai is supported by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe), and was selected by Corifer, the railway sector research and innovation steering committee, under a nationwide call for projects. Development partners include SNCF Gares & Connexions, 574 Grand Est (the Group’s regional innovation accelerator), e-SNCF Solutions, AREP, the Railenium technology research institute, and plastics recycling company Purple.
