SNCF Voyageurs to launch high-speed rail in Italy
From 2026, our company, SNCF Voyages Italie, plans to launch new domestic routes, so as to reach 13 daily return trips on Italian soil. This ambition is part of SNCF Voyageurs' strategy to double its passengers in Europe.
SNCF Voyageurs is setting its sights on the Italian rail market and will launch new lines in addition to its existing cross-border offer in 2026. Our company's ambition is to develop a north-south route between Turin-Milan-Rome-Naples, and an east-west route between Turin and Venice.

Our high-speed trains will stop in: Turin, Milan, Rome, Naples, Florence, Bologna, Verona, Brescia, Padua and Venice. Other destinations in the south of Italy may be served at a later date.

What kind of equipment?
In order to offer Italian customers these new domestic trains, SNCF Voyageurs will resort on 15 double-decker TGV M trainsets in addition to the 100 new ones previously ordered for French lines. They will undergo technical modifications in order to adjust to Italian infrastructure. They will be very comfortable, with the coziest seats possible and they will also be more environmentally friendly.
Our presence in Italy
Since 2011 we have been operating a cross-border TGV INOUI line between Paris, Milan and Turin on a daily basis. This new offer designed to conquer the Italian domestic market will be operated by our subsidiary SVI (SNCF Voyages Italy). This development hangs upon the framework agreement signed between SNCF Voyageurs and the Italian incumbent operator RFI in April 2024, which allows us to run TGVs in Italy for 15 years.
