Louis Gallois served as chairman from 1996 to 2006, and brought fresh impetus to SNCF, creating Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) in 1997 and revamping transport in the Paris region with the 1999 launch of Transilien. In 2000, the French regions took on the role of transport organizing authorities, and in 2001 SNCF launched what would become France’s leading e-commerce site: Voyages-sncf.com. Meanwhile, the TGV Méditerranée line brought Marseilles and Paris closer together, and iDTGV trains introduced a whole new travel experience.
