Pierre Tissier headed SNCF from 1949 until his death in 1955. A former Conseiller d’État and Director General of the French tax administration, Mr Tissier launched an energetic modernization effort. He also electrified the Paris-Lyon line, where a 140 km/h speed record was set during his chairmanship.
