Rail Logistics Europe: our strategy

Since 2021, all of SNCF Group’s freight rail transport activities have been united under the Rail Logistics Europe brand. Our strategy calls for developing the expertise of our 5 subsidiaries to offer customers decarbonized, turnkey solutions.

Our 4 services

RLE is powered by the complementarity and synergies between:

  • rail traction, offered by Fret SNCF and the Captrain network

  • combined transport, offered by Naviland Cargo

  • rail motorway service, offered by VIIA

  • freight forwarding, offered by Forwardis

Our 5 companies harness their unrivalled European network of skills and expertise to design and deploy innovative, reliable, sustainable rail logistics solutions that serve customer needs—and protect the planet.

Subsidiary synergy

At Rail Logistics Europe, our goals are:

  • to offer customers decarbonized, turnkey solutions that simplify management of their rail logistics chain,

  • to become Europe’s second-most profitable rail logistics network.

By adopting a shared strategy for all 5 companies, we encourage them to develop complementary offers, creating value for each subsidiary and for RLE as a whole.

Our strategic priorities

Our strategy is based largely on:

  • identifying priority development areas in Europe, to pool resources from each subsidiary and hone our competitive edge in corridors with the best potential for new business and modal shift,
  • pooling strategic procurement by RLE entities to benefit from higher purchasing volumes,
  • adopting a shared asset management policy, especially for rolling stock acquisition.
