ACTIMOB brings public services and shops to rural communities

Tech4Mobility1 tested a multi-functional truck service for a year in Pays de Landivisiau, Brittany. The aim was to give rural residents easier access to local services, and help them stay connected – both with their community and with essential public services.

ACTIMOB, camion itinérant

One truck, many services

Imagine a truck that brings local shops and public services on tour through towns and villages. That’s ACTIMOB—short for “mobile activities”. This multi-service truck is shared by public organizations, associations, and shopkeepers. From September 2024 to September 2025, it was tested in the Pays de Landivisiau area of Finistère, northwestern France, as part of our Tech4Mobility innovation accelerator.

Actimob won the TENMOD programme (Territoire de Nouvelles Mobilités Durables) supported by ADEME and France Mobilités. The project pioneered the concept of “reverse mobility” – bringing public services and shops directly to rural communities, where access is often limited.

  • 62%

of French towns have no shops²

  • 2

separate, modular spaces in the truck allow for a variety of activities

  • 19

towns and 33,097 residents were served in the trial phase

The ACTIMOB experiment is designed to revitalise our countryside by offering a new type of mobile services and shops.

Two spaces and an online platform

The ACTIMOB truck features two dedicated areas: a counter space and an office space. Over the course of a year, 22 users – known as “Actimobers” – booked slots on the truck’s rounds through a dedicated website. They included phone repairers, home help providers, seamstresses, temp agencies and insurers, well as public and nonprofit services such as:

  • France Travail – the national employment agency
  • France Services – help with paperwork and online procedures
  • Centre départemental d'action sociale – social support and public assistance
  • A digital advisor – guidance on using digital tools.

Several other local authorities in Brittany and Corrèze (central France) have expressed interest in deploying a similar service in their own regions.
