Our commitment to preventing LGBT+ discrimination

We are vigilant in protecting equal rights and inclusion for all our employees every day, whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity. Given the importance we place on this mission, we’ve adopted a dynamic action plan built on 3 pillars.

1. Fighting exclusion and discrimination

We provide a number of tools for managers, HR staff and employees in order to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity:

  • training employees involved in recruitment not to discriminate
  • creating and encouraging employees to use materials that promote inclusion (guides, information kits, e-learning and serious games developed internally, best practices, posters, and awareness-raising sessions and presentations); we also have a dedicated space on our intranet devoted to stopping LGBT+ discrimination
  • an internal hotline and discrimination reporting mechanism

2. Cultivating an inclusive work environment

We have implemented a series of measures in order to improve LGBT+ employees’ work environment:

  • extending birth leave and paternity leave to the spouse of the biological father. This measure, supported jointly by the SNCF Group HR Department and the GARE! association, opens up a new right for LGBT+ people working at SNCF
  • adapting the parenting guide to include same-sex families
  • including transgender people by allowing them to change their first name and/or civil status on the company's administrative documents and internal applications
  • asserting our commitment through internal and external communication campaigns

For the past 12 years, we've been working closely with “GARE!”, the LGBT+ employee association at SNCF. Together, we carry out various awareness-raising, information and support initiatives.

In 2025, a new partnership agreement with “GARE!”

On May 12, 2025, we signed an agreement with the association covering years 2025-2027. This signature lays emphasis on SNCF’s ongoing commitment to “GARE!” over the past 12 years.

We are working together to fight LGBTphobia, in particular by making good use of the numerous contacts in the field of the association, which is also a creative force within the company.

In addition to the numerous actions carried out with “GARE!”, the agreement focuses on the “Trainbow Europe” event to be held on October 10 and 11, 2025 in Paris, which aims to unite European players in the transport sector around the shared values of LGBT+ inclusion.

3. Raising awareness nationwide

We take part in major national and international events: the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia; World AIDS Day; Pride; Solidays and more.

A charter signed in 2023 with L’Autre Cercle

In May 2023, we signed the Commitment Charter of the non-profit L’Autre Cercle (The Other Circle), which harnesses the power of employers—including SNCF—to create inclusive working environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) people.

Through the initiatives launched by the association, such as the LGBT+ employee perception barometer, the identification of Role Models and Allies, and thanks to its network of partner companies, we are able to identify the best practices of other companies.

Spotlight on 17 May, when the world fights discrimination

Every year, SNCF Group supports the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. To make their convictions loud and clear when it comes to the inclusion of LGBT+ people, SNCF Group companies and activities will be decked with the colors of the rainbow on May 17, 2025: SNCF Voyageurs will have a film-covered TGV train running on the South East Axis, Gares & Connexions will deck out 35 stations, and events are being organized with “GARE!”.
