Rixain Law

Equal and transparent representation

To increase women’s participation in the economy and in business, France’s Rixain Law of 24 December 2021 introduced mandatory quotas to ensure balanced representation of women and men in senior management and on governing bodies in large companies. It also required businesses to report transparently on this issue.

Companies with at least 1,000 employees

The law introduced new rules for companies with a workforce of at least 1,000 employees over the past 3 years.

These businesses are now required to calculate and publicly disclose gender representation statistics for their senior management and governing bodies by 1 March each year.

Targeting 30% female representation

Companies must ensure that no gender is underrepresented in senior management and governing bodies. The law fixes the minimum threshold at 30% by 1 March 2026. This will increase to 40% on 1 March 2029, with companies given 2 years to comply or face financial penalties.
