“GEODIS is helping us cut our CO₂ emissions”

GEODIS handles last-mile delivery for Rexel, France’s top distributor of products and services for energy professionals—and #2 worldwide. Rexel’s transport and IS supply manager Franck Branjauneau applauds its commitment to sustainable logistics.

SNCF Group: You rely on GEODIS for your transport operations in France. How does that partnership work?

Franck Branjauneau: GEODIS manages our last-mile deliveries. From small 500g parcels to pallets weighing up to a tonne, whether it’s courier or express services, they’re structured to handle it all. Any order placed by 6.00 p.m. is delivered to our customer the very next day. GEODIS operate across all regions, covering everything from major urban centres to remote locations, and they adapt to all our delivery needs—including fixed time slots and special requests. They’re a responsive, reliable, and attentive partner. And their flexibility and willingness to fine-tune solutions are invaluable. In 2024 alone, we delivered 3.79 million parcels to nearly 1.26 million customers in all.

SNCF Group: Reducing carbon footprints is one of your key customer promises. How do you do it?

F.B.: Given the sheer volume of CO2 concerned, our main focus is on reducing emissions from our own fleet, especially the vehicles that deliver to our logistics platforms and GEODIS branches across France every night.
For last-mile deliveries, GEODIS has taken major steps by investing in electric and alternative-fuel vehicles as they renew their fleet. And the impact is clear: since 2019, we've cut emissions on the last mile by 20%, and we aim for a 50% reduction by 2035. GEODIS also provides us with transparent data, which allows us to display the carbon footprint of each delivery right on the invoices we issue to our customers. That level of detail is a real plus.

SNCF Group: What other areas are you looking into?

F.B.: We’re exploring how to take carbon data even further, especially for low-emission zones (LEZs). Right now, CO2 figures are averages, since our shipments are grouped with those of other GEODIS clients. But when, for instance, a customer in a city centre receives a delivery via cargo bike, I want to be able to highlight that benefit. We’re also working on a potential new offering to collect used equipment, have it refurbished by our suppliers, and resell it as reconditioned products. When we’re ready to launch, I’m confident GEODIS will step up with the same proactive approach they’ve always shown.
