GEODIS cuts road freight traffic between France and Italy
The new GEODIS road-rail freight line between France and Italy offers real-time container tracking and promises to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 3/4 compared to road transport.
An alternative to road freight
In January 2022, GEODIS inaugurated a freight line between the Paris Region and northern Italy. This new road-rail solution operates 3 return trips a week between Noisy-le-Sec, east of Paris, and Novara, in Piedmont. The rail link has a weekly capacity of 240 containers1 and is estimated to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 75% compared with road transport2. The project is part of Geodis’ wider “Green” strategy—it operates more than 100 trains a week across Europe.

Real-time safety and tracking reports
Our subsidiaries Fret SNCF and Captrain—housed under Rail Logistics Europe (RLE)—are also working on the project and are responsible for providing part of the train’s traction. “We’re delighted to offer our customers a road-rail freight transport solution to and from France for packaged, liquid, or powdered goods, hazardous materials, and even waste,” explains Daniele Bernardi, Managing Director of GEODIS Road Transport, Italy. “Plus,” he adds, “all our container carriers are equipped with GPS beacons to guarantee cargo safety and provide real-time information.”
