Rail Logistics Europe transports Amazon packages by TGV

In 2025, over half a million packages will be carried between Paris and Lyon through our partnership with Amazon. Operated by Hexafret, this service helps cut CO₂ emissions and reduce road traffic on this major corridor.

Amazon packages travel in dedicated cargo holds aboard TGVs

Rail Logistics Europe has launched a high-speed courier service on the Paris-Lyon corridor to whisk Amazon packages to their destination. After successful trials, service is now in commercial operation and can transport over half a million parcels a year. Packages are loaded into dedicated, enclosed spaces in TGV cargo holds.

Pioneering logistics

The service is operated by Hexafret, a rail company within the RLE group. Trains make the 470 km journey in just 2 hours and 18 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h. This creates a low-emission corridor connecting Amazon’s logistics sites in Lyon and Paris, up to and including the last mile. In Paris, two-thirds of deliveries are completed using electric vehicles, cargo bikes or on foot.

Decarbonizing freight transport

This innovative solution highlights RLE’s commitment to developing fast, low-carbon logistics solutions. Amazon also uses the Le Boulou-Bettembourg and Boulou-Calais rail routes operated by RLE subsidiary VIIA, making rail a key part of its overall logistics strategy.

This service demonstrates Rail Logistics Europe’s ability to redefine rail freight across France and Europe. We’re harnessing the power of rail to accelerate a green transition for rail freight.
