A two-day shoot in Nièvre for movie “Quand vient l’automne”
François Ozon's latest film, starring Hélène Vincent and Josiane Balasko, among others, kept SNCF teams busy for two days. The director explains why he was so keen to shoot in a train.
A thriller made in fall
Relationships between parents, children and grandchildren, as well as old age and friendship, are at the heart of François Ozon's latest film, released on 2 October and acclaimed by critics and by the public. In order to create a cinematic setting that was both authentic and nostalgic, scenes were shot with the help of SNCF in a train station and aboard two trains.
Our committed teams
In October 2023, the train station in Cosne-sur-Loire, a TER Bourgogne Franche-Comté train, and a Corail Intercités train were used as setting for this feature film focusing on the relationship between a grandmother and her grandson.
Our experts from the Cinéma &Tournages unit offered their dedicated support to François Ozon and his team for these scenes, shot on a natural set, with no green screens required. These two days of filming were prepared four months ahead and were made possible thanks to the collaboration of a dozen or so stakeholders.
Specific rules must be followed in order to guarantee the safety of everyone involved when filming in a railway environment, and even more so on commercial trains. The film shoot involved staff from Gares & Connexions, SNCF Voyageurs and SNCF Réseau. Playing a key role in the smooth organization of this type of event, Railway Security teams took care of the film crew.
