The legacy of the Paris 2024 Games
The SNCF Group committed to making the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games an inclusive, sustainable and supportive event. To mark European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW), find out what we are doing to support climate transition, accessibility and inclusion.
Beyond our contribution, a lasting legacy
Organised from 18 September to 8 October 2024, the ESDW aims to raise public awareness of the challenges of sustainable development and promote concrete action to protect the planet.
The way we prepared for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games serves as a strong example of our Group's commitment to a sustainable future. In line with our environmental and social ambitions, our contribution to this event has helped nurture various projects that we will continue to develop in support of the climate transition.
Limiting the carbon footprint of the Paris 2024 Games
We have taken a number of actions to promote green mobility and limit the greenhouse gas emissions associated with this event:
- Putting into service the first part of EOLE, the extension of RER E to the west of the Paris region. The aim is to carry 650,000 passengers a day by 2026.
Find out more - Creating 6,500 bicycle parking spaces, including 1,100 at Gare du Nord. Nationwide, the aim is to offer 45,000 spaces by the end of 2024 and 90,000 spaces by 2030.
Find out more - Deploying 70 water fountains in stations and 22 urban cool islands on forecourts. The aim is to deploy 211 of these in 194 stations by the end of 2024.
Find out more - Re-using our concrete sleepers to provide ballast for the temporary facilities built for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Finally, for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, 100% of the venues where the sports events took place were accessible by public transport.

Our environmental commitments
Promoting accessibility and inclusion
We took many steps to ensure that the Paris 2024 Games were both accessible to all and inclusive:
- 56 stations serving the events were made accessible, with improved services for people with disabilities. The aim is to have 200 accessible stations by 2025, thanks to €1.8 billion worth of improvements.
Find out more - People taking part in back-to-work programmes helped prepare for the Paris 2024 Games (doing repairs, gardening, construction work, etc.).
- SNCF Foundation supports community projects to help young people integrate into society through sport.
- The Group supports top-level sportsmen and women with the SNCF Athletes Programme
Find out more - TradSNCF, an app translating words in over 130 languages, has made it easier to welcome travellers from all over the world.
