Undercover Unit: who are these employees operating out of sight?
You won’t notice them—but they’re watching you! These agents operate inconspicuously in stations and on trains, catching pickpockets as well as sex and gender-based offenders. Learn more about our Undercover Unit (UU)—a critical aspect of Railway Security.
A laptop bag snatched as a passenger boards a train, indecent exposure in a station corridor, unwanted sexual contact, scams, suspicious behavior... our Undercover Unit deals with all kinds of petty crime.

Seeing without being seen
They patrol stations and trains every day on the lookout for potential offenders. But unlike their Railway Security1 colleagues, these operators don’t wear uniforms. They look like your average man/woman on the street so they can blend into the crowd. It’s the best way to see without being seen—and catch culprits red-handed.
Behavior analysis experts
Our Undercover Unit’s 25 dedicated employees—all of whom joined up voluntarily—work day and night. The type of crime they fight is complex and surreptitious and, compared with their uniformed colleagues, requires a different but complementary skillset. Trained by SUGE1, they are experts at analyzing the type of criminal behavior that requires stealth and preparation.

Caring for the victims
After each incident, our UU agents also help victims report the crime to the police. For example, if something has been stolen, they can ask the police investigator to return the item and take the victim’s statement right then and there so they can catch their train and continue their journey.
