Our local, societal, and environmental commitments
We’re mindful of the economic, environmental and societal impact of our activities. It’s why we’ve adopted and posted a System for Promoting Socially and Ecologically Responsible Procurement (SPASER) to implement our responsible procurement strategy more effectively. Discover how we meet our local, societal, and environmental commitments.
We understand the economic, environmental and societal impact of our activities. Which is why we’ve adopted and posted a System for Promoting Socially and Ecologically Responsible Procurement (SPASER) to ensure that our procurement strategy meets our local, social and environmental objectives.
Our strategic priorities
Responsible procurement is part and parcel of every SNCF buyer’s job. In 2023, we raised the bar further with a six-pronged strategy.
CSR in procurement:
60%
of our purchases are covered by contracts with a CSR weighting of 20%.
Duty of Vigilance
65%
of our spending is allocated to suppliers that have undergone a CSR assessment
Excellent supplier relations
In 2012,
SNCF procurement was awarded the LRFAR (Responsible supplier relations and procurement label)—which was renewed in October 2022.
Our responsible procurement policy
Managed by the Group Procurement division, this policy applies to all our purchases and is upheld by our network of responsible procurement representatives.
Focusing on outreach
Our procurement policy is designed to include the long-term unemployed. Which is why our buying strategies incorporate social and solidarity enterprises (SSE) and include social insertion clauses.

Focusing on local communities
We want to contribute to the economic and social development of local communities by creating wealth and jobs through our procurement policy. Which is why our procurement strategies incorporate innovation, CSR, safety, decarbonization, and sourcing from SMEs.
Focusing on the circular economy
Our procurement policy is designed to maximize a resource’s use throughout its lifecycle. We encourage our suppliers to focus on eco-design, recycling, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
What we expect from our suppliers
We expect suppliers to be fully aware of risks regarding corruption and influence peddling—as outlined in the Sapin 2 Law—and regarding infringements of human rights, fundamental liberties, personal health and safety, and the environmental protection—as outlined in France’s Duty of Vigilance law.
We’re committed to CSR and invite you to embrace our responsible procurement policy, too.
To do so, first attend our regular webinars and learn how important sustainable and responsible practices are. You’ll receive information and training on key CSR principles and best practices.
Next, have your CSR performance assessed by a third party. This assessment will transparently boost your credibility with partners and clients. It will identify areas of improvement and concrete actions to implement, and also ensure you comply with regulations. This reduces the risk of sanctions, and strengthens your position in the market as a responsible player.
Lastly, adopt a continuous improvement approach. We’ll help you continually enhance your sustainability performance and comply with our CSR requirements. We are confident that with your collaboration and commitment, together we will achieve these ambitious objectives.
